简介：ThehistoryofDanishcountrychurcharchitectureistoldbyshowingscenesofhowthechurchwasusedbythecongregation,beginningwiththecelebrationofmassinasmallandsimplewoodenchurch800yearsago,andendingwiththecongregationsinginginavillagechurchofto-day.Thedevelopmentandthegrowthofthepatternofchurcharchitectureisshown.Dreyerinthisfilmshowsaseriesofchurchesfromdifferentperiodswithchurchgoersinperiodclothing.Eachperiodisseparatedbyashotofachurchbelldouble-exposedonthesky.Althoughthefilmhasavibrantandinstructivewayofcommunicatingthedifferentepochsandstylestostudents,itdoesnotexhibittheartisticqualitythatusuallydistinguishesaDreyerfilm,exceptperhapsinsomeofthecostumes,whichwereoriginallymadeforDayofWrath.TheboardofDanskKulturfilminautumn1945decidedthattheirplannedchurchfilmwouldexclusivelybeaboutvillagechurches.Dreyerwouldreworkthescriptthatwaswrittenbyeditorandfolkhigh-schoolprincipalBernhardJensen,aidedbyacommitteeofexpertsconsistingofarchitectH.Lønborg-JensenandVictorHermansen,curatorattheNationalMuseum
